I’m Mat Wright. I live near Lyon, France, where I design and develop apps and research technology.

I’ve loved building things with computers and electronics since I was a kid. I started programming in BASIC on Commodore and Sinclair computers when I was 8, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

My other lifelong passion is design and digital art. Having initially attended engineering courses and worked in the field of electronics, I decided to switch and pursue my passion for design. I completed an Honour’s degree at the University of Wales where I experimented with digital art and design.

Around the time I was at University the internet began to take off and I became fascinated by the possibilities of the web. I learned HTML and began building experimental websites using Perl and CGI. I went on to certify as a Zend PHP Engineer and work as a full stack web developer for over ten years before moving into mobile app development.

Today, I’m the founder of Campfire App Studio, a small software company that builds apps for multiple platforms including iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and the web. I primarily work with Flutter, Firebase, TypeScript and Node.js. I am a regional leader of an IxDf (International Design Foundation) group which I set up in 2019 to bring together designers and developers in the Lyon area. I am also a member of the Agile Alliance organisation and a regular attendee of the Agile Lyon Meetup.

I hold a Master's degree in Creative App Development, awarded with Distinction by the University of Falmouth, Cornwall, UK. During this two year research programme I explored the application of emerging technologies and developed a number of experimental apps and games using Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality.

I also hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Analytical Philosophy awarded by the Open University, UK. My native language is English and I speak French fluently.
